Each week I receive requests for more ideas for Southwestern Style Afghans or Navajo Blanket patterns. I’ve searched a few of my favorite free crochet pattern sources online to find a collection of patterns for this theme. I hope you find a Southwestern Style Crochet Blanket Pattern you like in this collection.
Most of these designs (35 of them!) are free crochet patterns but some premium patterns are also available. If the pattern is available for sale it will indicate (for sale) beside the title and I have listed them at the very end of the post.

This pretty blanket is worked in 5 coordinating shades of Red Heart Super Saver (Medium Weight Yarn) and a 5 mm (H). The finished afghan measures approximately 54 inches X 68 inches in size. This pattern was originally published in 1997, in Crochet World Magazine, Vol 20, Page 4.
Southwestern Rainbow Throw Pattern
The Southwestern Rainbow Throw was designed by Marianne Forrestal and is available as a free PDF from Yarnspirations. For this project 11 different colors of Red Heart Super Saver, Worsted Weight Yarn [4] and a 5.5 mm (I) hook were used. The finished blanket measures approximately 44 inches wide X 54 inches long.
Wild West Sunset Lapghan
The Wild West Sunset Lapghan was designed by Teresa Chorzepa for Lion Brand Yarn. The pattern is now available from All Free Crochet Afghan Patterns. For this project you will need Medium Weight Yarn [4] and a 6.5 mm (K) crochet hook. The finished blanket measures approximately 44 inches X 44 inches in size.
Southwest Stripe Crochet Blanket Pattern
The Caron Southwest Stripe Crochet Blanket Pattern is available as a free PDF download from Yarnspirations. For this project you will need 4 colors of Medium Weight Yarn [4] and a 5 mm (H) crochet hook. The finished blanket measures 50 inches X 60 inches in size.
Southwest Granny Square Blanket
The Southwest Granny Square Blanket was designed by Breann from Hooked on Homemade Happiness. This project was crocheted with Bulky Weight Yarn [5] and a 6 mm (J) crochet hook.
Southwest Afghan Pattern
This Southwest Afghan was designed by Carolyn Christmas. The project is crocheted in Chunky Weight Yarn [5] with a crochetinit (or cable) hook. The finished afghan measures approximately 48 inches X 68 inches in size. It combines crochet mile a minute and crochetnit techniques. Helpful photos are included for the specials stitches. Southwestern Mosaic Cross Throw

Mountain Mist Afghan
The Mountain Mist Afghan is crocheted with Medium Weight Yarn [4] and a 5 mm (H) crochet hook. The finished afghan measures 49 inches X 55 inches in size. The pattern is available from All Free Crochet.
Groovy-ghan
The groovy-ghan was created by Marinke of A Creative Being. This is very similar to the Apache Tears stitch pattern design. She has a great tutorial and instructions included in her post.

Indian Navajo Blanket Pattern
The Indian Navajo Blanket pattern was originally published inA Manual of Worsted Work For Those Who Knit and Crochet – Lion Brand Yarn(c. 1912). Pine Tree Afghan Pattern
The Pine Tree Afghan Pattern was originally published 1966 inVolume No. 45, Your Favorite Afghans to Knit and Crochet, by the Bernhard Ullmann Company. this pattern is available for free from Free Vintage Crochet. The finished afghan measures approximately 50 inches X 72 inches in size and was crocheted in 5 colors of Worsted Weight Yarn [4] with a 3.75 mm (F) crochet hook and afghan crochet hook (9-inches long).
Pinal Afghan Pattern
The Pinal Afghan Pattern is available for free from Purple Kitty Yarns. The pattern was originally published in Afghan and Fashion Collection, Columbia Minerva Book 776. For this project you will need Aran Weight Yarn [4] and size 6 mm (J) or 6.5 mm (K) crochet hook.
Navajo Diagonal Squares
Navajo Diagonal Squares was designed by Katherine Eng and is available as a free PDF from FreePatterns.com.
