I wasn't sure what topic to put this under.
I developed GD late in my first pregnancy, just over the threshold of normal.
Managed by diet, DS had normal blood sugars when born.
We have been thinking of trying for a second and while developing GD is uncertain, there is of course a lot of information that speaks to its long term effects and the likelihood of it occurring again.
I realise I've not had any follow ups since then (years ago now) so first thing Monday I'll phone the GP for a blood sugar test, but aside from that I would love to hear your experiences!
If you developed GD during your first pregnancy, did you end up having a second child? And how was the second pregnancy?

I did. The second pregnancy was fine. It didn't really impact me. Just follow the advice they give you and it should be fine.

I'm 31 weeks with my second. I was diagnosed at 28 weeks with my first and diet controlled, had him at 38 weeks (naturally).
This time I was diagnosed at 15 weeks and from about 20 weeks I've been on insulin (my choice over metformin) for my fasting readings as I can't keep them in range. A lot easier to manage second time round cos I'm used to it.
I think it's unusual to have it with your first and not in subsequent pregnancies, cos it seems to get harder with each pregnancy.

Yes and my GD was even worse with my second. Started at 11 weeks, and I ended up in hospital with a DKA at around 28 weeks, despite being on full metformin and insulin from early on. Ended up having to double my insulin daily from 12 units to 48 to get it under control. At the end of pregnancy my fasting levels suddenly dropped. This is also not good as suddenly having really good blood sugar levels can indicate the placenta isn’t working well (and both my babies were planned deliveries at 37 weeks as I have APS, which causes the placenta to age more rapidly). Tense few weeks! I’m not having any more.
Baby was on the 98th centile (still is and she’s 11 months!) and I had mild polyhydramnios.
Diabetes went away right after both births. I have annual HBa1c and so far so good.

Diagnosed at around 30 weeks with child one. Controlled by diet. Child had stopped growing by 38 weeks. Delivered at 38 weeks and weighed 6lb.
Diagnosed at around 20 weeks with child 2. Controlled by diet. Born at 40 + 4 weighing 7.5lb.
Diabetes went away after delivery but my mum and oldrr brother have now both been diagnosed with type 2. Guess I know what's in store for me later!
I wouldn't let it put me off having a second child.

Thank you - GD with my first felt 'mild', the readings were pretty much always in range and no intervention needed, but very unlikely to be a similar case with a second.
I feel so torn as I really would love a second one.

No I didn't have it again. Was borderline with dd and it was diet controlled. No issues with ds
